Although sequels aren't particularly common in anime, isekai seems to produce more of them than the majority of other themes and genres. The biggest isekai stories of the year typically involve continuations rather than brand-new stories, with 2023 being no exception.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation has solidified its position as one of the isekai genre's heavyweights in the anime and light novel industries, despite not being without controversy. Although Mushoku Tensei typically handles them better than most of its successors, Rifujin na Magonote's light novel helped establish many isekai tropes and clichés as one of the theme's most well-known and influential stories. A hikikomori dies after performing one final good deed after leading a demanding and harsh life; to his surprise, he is reborn as a baby named Rudeus in a fantasy world. The main character still bears the scars from his previous life and is trying to make the most of his second chance.
Season 2 picks up a few years later with Rudeus embarking on a search for his missing mother. Studio Bind still has a ton of fantastic material to cover because Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation produced 26 light novel volumes, and the anime has only adapted about a quarter of this material.
The Eminence In Shadow Season 2

The Eminence in Shadow, which wrapped up its first season in Winter 2023, is already scheduled to return. If the second season is even remotely as good as the first, it will rank among the top isekai anime of 2023. Cid wanted to be a hero who operated in the shadows on Earth, but he passed away before realizing his dream. Fortunately, Cid is given another chance when he wakes up in a fantastical world where there is an excess of power. He establishes a fictitious group called the Shadow Garden to combat the made-up Cult of Diablos in an effort to capitalize on his newfound status as the main character. Cid has no idea that this war is anything but a fantasy.
The Eminence in Shadow is a power fantasy with a hilarious lead character who borders on being a troll. Cid is a total hoot and, with a little help from a few girls, carries the show on his own two feet. In Season 2, Cid and his companions will travel to the Lawless City in search of the Blood Queen, a vampire.
